Every document your tax file contains is sensitive, and federal rules govern how a firm is required to handle it.
The Badran Tax secure client portal is where all of it lives.
One login gives you encrypted document storage, electronic signatures, live case status, and direct messaging with the professionals working your case.

Your Tax Files Need Secure Handling
Open a completed tax return and look at what is on it.
Your Social Security number and your spouse’s. Your dependents’ numbers. Date of birth, home address, employer, annual income, and the bank routing and account number where your refund gets deposited. Add the notices, transcripts, and bank records that a resolution case requires, and the file becomes a complete financial portrait of your household.
That is why the handling of tax data is regulated rather than left to preference. Under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, tax return preparers are classified as financial institutions and fall under the FTC Safeguards Rule.
- Tax return preparers must create and enact written security plans to protect client data.
- Failure to have such a plan may result in an FTC investigation.
- Firms must use only service providers that maintain an adequate level of information protection.
- These rules apply to every firm regardless of size, from solo practitioners to national practices.

Read that third requirement again, because it is the one clients rarely hear about.
A firm is accountable for the platforms it chooses, not only for its own conduct.
The portal we use is therefore a compliance decision as much as a convenience one, and its standards are published rather than promised.
How Your Documents Are Protected
Vague reassurance is easy to write. Published, auditable standards are harder, so here are the actual ones behind the portal.
| Safeguard | What It Means for You |
|---|---|
| SOC 2 certification | Security and privacy controls have been examined by an independent auditor, not just claimed by the vendor. |
| 256-bit SSL encryption | Everything moving between your device and the portal is encrypted. The platform’s certificates carry an A grade from Qualys SSL Labs. |
| Amazon AWS infrastructure | Enterprise-grade hosting with daily backups. Data for U.S. firms is stored in the United States. |
| No stored card data | Card details are never held in the portal. Payments route directly to PCI-DSS Level 1 compliant processors. |
| Knowledge-based authentication | Identity verification for electronic signatures, available for U.S. signers. |
| Public bug bounty program | Independent security researchers continuously test the platform for vulnerabilities. |
| GLBA alignment | The platform is built to support the confidentiality requirements our firm is legally bound to meet. |
The full technical documentation is published by the platform provider and linked at the end of this article. Read it yourself. A firm that will not tell you where its security claims come from is asking for trust it has not earned.

Inside the Client Portal: Features Spotlight
One login covers everything connected to your taxes, from the first document you send to the final resolution letter. Here is what sits behind it.
A permanent, organized document vault
Every file you upload and every document we produce stays in your private client folder, sorted and searchable.
- Filed by year and by matter, so a 2024 return does not get buried under a 2026 audit
- Visible only to you and your assigned team, with no shared inboxes involved
- Returns, notices, transcripts, receipts, and worksheets stored together in one file
- Prior years available on demand, so requesting a copy of an old return takes seconds rather than a phone call
Upload from any device in seconds
Getting documents to us is the step that stalls most tax work. The portal removes the friction from it.
- Phone camera capture turns a paper notice into a filed document without a scanner
- Drag and drop from a computer, with no attachment size ceiling to work around
- Batch upload when you are gathering a full year at once
- Delivery confirmation, so you never have to ask whether something arrived
Electronic signatures on the forms that matter
Representation cannot begin until authorizations are signed. Signing happens on screen.
- Engagement letters, Form 2848 power of attorney, and IRS authorizations signed without printing
- Knowledge-based identity verification applied where it is required for U.S. signers
- Timestamped and stored in your file automatically, with a copy you can download
- Minutes instead of a mail cycle, which matters when a deadline is close
Live status on your return or case
The most common question clients ask is where things stand. The portal answers it without a call.
- Current stage of your return, amendment, or resolution case
- Open tasks showing precisely what our team is waiting on from you
- Your deadlines, tracked against your specific situation
- Notifications when a status changes or a new item needs your attention
Secure messaging with your actual team
Questions go straight to the professionals handling your file.
- Threaded conversations that stay attached to the matter they concern
- Attachments inside the message, so context and documents travel together
- Complete history, which means nothing needs to be re-explained months later
A personalized checklist of what is still needed
Rather than a generic list of tax documents, your portal shows the items outstanding for your circumstances, updated as we receive them.
You always know what to provide next to keep your case moving.
Full functionality on iOS and Android
The mobile app carries the same capabilities as the browser version, protected by the same encryption. Upload, sign, message, and check status from anywhere, with push notifications when something needs you.
One login, one file, one thread. Every document and every conversation stays retrievable years after your case resolves.
Getting Started With A Secure Tax Client Portal
Portal access is set up for you when you become a client of Badran Tax.
You will receive an email invitation to create your password, and from that point everything runs through your account.
A few habits separate clients who find the portal useful from clients who forget it exists:
- Turn on two-factor authentication. It takes under a minute and it is the single most effective thing you can do to protect an account holding your tax records.
- Use a password you use nowhere else. Credential reuse is how most account compromises actually happen, not sophisticated hacking.
- Install the app early. Most documents reach you as paper or as something you photograph. Capturing them on your phone the day they arrive beats a scanning session in April.
- Upload as you go. Sending one document at a time keeps your file current and lets our team start work sooner.
- Name files so you can find them. “2025 W-2 Anderson Manufacturing” will save you real time two years from now.
- Check your open tasks before calling. The answer to “what do you still need from me” is usually already on your dashboard, updated the moment our team reviews something.
You can request removal of files or messages from your account at any time. Bear in mind that our firm has professional record retention obligations, so we will explain what can be removed and what we are required to keep before anything is deleted.
The team at Badran Tax works with individuals and businesses across all 50 states, and the portal is how nearly all of that work gets done.
If you are not yet a client and want to understand what resolving your situation would involve, the tax consultation is completely free.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get access to the client portal?
Access is created for you when you become a client. You will receive an email invitation to set your password. If you cannot find it, call our office at (732) 937-9797 and we will resend it.
Is the portal safe for Social Security numbers and bank details?
Yes. That is precisely what it was built for. Data is encrypted in transit with 256-bit SSL, stored on SOC 2 certified infrastructure hosted in the United States, and card details are never stored in the portal at all.
Do I need to download an app?
No. The portal works in any web browser. The mobile app is available for iOS and Android if you would rather upload documents by phone camera, which most clients find easier.
Can I sign IRS forms through the portal?
Yes. Engagement letters, Form 2848 power of attorney, and other authorizations are signed electronically, with knowledge-based identity verification applied where it is required.
How long do my documents stay in the portal?
Your files remain in your account for as long as you are a client, including returns and correspondence from prior years. You can download or reference them at any time without requesting copies.
Can I see what documents you still need from me?
Yes. Your portal displays a checklist specific to your situation showing outstanding items and any deadlines that apply.
Does using the portal cost anything?
No. Portal access is included for every Badran Tax client at no additional charge.
Can I remove documents from my portal?
You can request removal at any time. Our firm has professional record retention obligations, so we will explain what can be deleted and what must be retained before we act on the request.
Secure Tax Problem Resolution
The portal is not the interesting part of working with a tax firm.
Getting a levy released is. Filing six years of missing returns is.
The portal is simply the safest and fastest way to move the paperwork that makes any of that possible.
